TWO SHORT PROJECTS
Untitled (Jan 3 - Feb 10, 2022)
Black dog (Feb 18 - Mar 12, 2022)
As I look at the scope and geography of my work over the past 15 years I see that the photos are being made closer to my home. Not only that, they are more personal as well.
In the case of these two projects, the first was shot in my bedroom, the other mostly in my back yard.
They were each completed in about a month and the sequences are short and straightforward. This is a change from the two or three years I typically spend on projects, and the multidimensional edits I’d strive for.
Untitled is a series of photos of me, along with some details of my bedroom wall. I began Untitled during the 5th wave of the pandemic, yet another lockdown, more isolation.
Black dog came about almost immediately after I completed Untitled. Cindy and I had just rescued two dogs from Russia. One of them, Ellie, is a black dog. Black dog is a metaphor for melancholy or depression. Shortly after we adopted Tim and Ellie, Russia invaded Ukraine and the western world lurched from “COVID is over” (yuk, yuk) to “Welcome to WW III”.
No animals (human or canine) were harmed in the making of Untitled and Black dog.
