MEMENTO MORI @ LPM

When Guy first showed me these, told me he was going to hang them
in his gallery, I thought, “Why not, but I’m not going to go and look at
them. They’re just too sad.”

I’m talking about the photographs, by Tou Yun-Fei, shot in Taiwanese
animal shelters, of dogs who are about to be euthanized.

I found myself at LPM today, on some other business, and there they
were. I had to look. And once I’d looked I couldn’t stop myself from
feeling.

There has been some internet chatter here in Kapital City about these
photos. Exploitative and tasteless are two of the words being bandied
about. Kind of reminds me of the reaction I get to some of my work.

I’ll leave you to make up your own mind. Here are more details and

LTT

LIVE THROUGH THIS, the book, was delivered Friday afternoon.

It’s almost impossible for me to look at. Not because it’s bad. Not
because I think it’s not worth anything. No.

Sure, there are 3 or 4 pages I’d like back. Not the images, but the
way they are rendered on the page. . . Too light or too dark, that
sort of thing.

But mostly it’s because it all seems a bit unreal. Here’s this thing
that has consumed me, both the “taking” of the fotos and then the
editing and production of the book, for close to 2 years.

And there it is.

Done.

With apologies to VU
