A DAY IN THE LIFE (plus HYPE and GEEK)
Well, this weeks drool starts with hype (what else is new?), morphs
into some geek talk (not too usual) and ends with a long blow-by-
blow of this past Friday, with 2 bonus shots from Saturday…….
HYPE
The invitation to my PIKTO show. You’re invited…..

GEEK
Well I finally went and did it. I bought a Drobo RAID thingy. And battery
back-up, too.
Up to now I kept all my files on external hard drives. All the frames from
every job went on one HD and the finals from each gig were stored on a
separate HD.
The thinking was that if a drive failed (and everyone tells me it’s not a
matter of if, it’s a matter of when) I’d at least have all the RAW data or
the finals. Depending on which drive failed, if you know what I mean.
The Drobo has 8 bays and each bay can hold a 2 TB drive. I’ve got drives
in 4 bays so far with tons of room for expansion.
Drobo Inc. calls their product “the world’s first storage robot”. It backs data
up by mirroring it (or something) across all the available drives. If one fails
the data is already protected on the others (or something).
I have to say, I expected my first “robot” to be a bit sexier than this box……

But it does replace this conglomeration of 500 gig and 1TB externals…..

Of course, I still have a lot of Old School storage, too……

By the way, I took these snaps with my new SONY 550. Mr. Sony, you
make good cameras.
FRIDAY

Got up Friday morning and made our way, Rebecca and I, to YOW.

Goofing around on the YOW concourse

Nice and easy, booked onto the eleven o’clock flight to YTZ, the
Billy Bishop Airport. Better known as The Toronto Island Airport.

On board and deplaning
Once there we had a half hour to kill, so we picnicked by the
waterfront, which is just outside the terminal doors.

Can’t really tell you what, exactly, we were shooting, or
who for. But I can say we walked from the airport to the
shoot and that flying into Billy Bishop on Porter Air is a
swell, easy, human experience.

Shot for a couple of hours then caught the 4:30 flight and
were home in time for dinner.

Right after dinner, Friday, I motored over to SPAO to have
a look at the year-end show. Exhibition No. 5.

Well, to tell you the truth, I didn’t really go to study the fotos
(tho I did study them some). Mostly I went to make the scene,
baby. Cause it’s always a scene…..

And, yes, fotos. too…….

As well as merch and snacks…….

And more fotos……
