This week drool is going to redirect you to a couple
of other sites that might be of interest to droolers. It
just so happens that both of these sites contain info
that pertains to yours truly.

You’ll have to excuse the immodesty. But, hey, drool
is always looking for content. Not to mention HYPE.

First, though, a couple of other matters:

RETAIL PORTRAITS

Every so often I get asked by someone if I’ll take their picture.
Or, sometimes, someone asks me to shoot a friend or family
member.

I always make sure that the person asking knows that I’m just
going to do what I want, not what they want. Unless they want
me to do what I want, if you know what I mean.

Anyway…..recently I was asked to shoot Hannah and Landon.
So I did. We arranged to meet in a park, I brought the whole
digital camera and lighting kit. And my 4×5.

Once we got there I said to myself: “Fuckit, I’m only shooting
4×5″. Even tho I only had 8 sheets of film with me.

So, long story short, I shot 3 setups of them with 7 sheets of
film, and saved the last sheet for a totally uncalled for shot of
the legs and shoes of their friend.

These then got assembled into a large triptych:

E-MAIL

I must copy here an e-mail I received from Guy Berubé,
director of La Petite Mort Gallery. This message is in
relation to USER: Women, the show of women crack
addicts that I have up there.

Here’s the message:

“today, I freakin’ answered 3000 freakin’
questions about your freakin’ photographs…
next time, shoot sunsets.

hugs

Guy Berube”

BEHIND THE LENS

Report on Business magazine has put together a pretty
illuminating, interesting video called BEHIND THE LENS.

Screen grab

The video features the thoughts and work of the four
photographers whose work for the magazine has been
nominated for a National Magazine Award.

The video is up on the RoB website. It’s preceded by a
commercial, because someone has to pay for content,
right?

NEW SOCIAL INQUIRY

My friend Riva Soucie, in association with her friend Karen
Foster, have launched an online magazine titled: NEW SOCIAL
INQUIRY.

Riva and Karen are PhD students at Carleton University,
studying sociology. They thought it was about time that
aspects of academia were brought down to Earth, and
they did something about it.

To quote from their first editorial:

“New Social Inquiry is a different kind of
academic journal. Our aim is to publish
and showcase social research, essays and
creative works that are accessible to a wide
audience, engaging and relevant for non-
specialists, yet sophisticated and complex
enough to push scholarship forward.”

They commissioned sociologist Aaron Doyle to write a piece
about USER. They were interested in seeing how the work I’m
doing fits in to their world of sociology.

Please visit NEW SOCIAL INQUIRY, click on Current Issue,
then Table of Contents, and then USER. You’ll have to click
thru 5 or 6 photos before you can get to the words. I found
it quite interesting to read a sociologist’s take on what has
been a somewhat controversial body of work

And, by the way……there’s lots of other interesting writing and
stuff in NEW SOCIAL INQUIRY, as well.

Spend some time here.
