ARTIST A DAY
Been getting e-mails from strangers today (Friday). Plus, the hits
to my site are thru the roof. Wondered what was up. E-mailed one
of the strangers back. Asked where they bumped into my site.
Google Mini Apps Artist A Day was the answer.
Once again…..happy to help others deliver an audience to
advertisers.

A few months ago some of my work (USER) was featured on
Expiration Notice, an online fotomag.
Turns out that the kids at Coeur d’Alene High School, in Idaho,
have their own fotoblog (other high schools…..are you getting
this?).
For one post the kids were asked:
Which photographer do you think is the most talented of the
group? Why? Which image speaks to you the most? Why? Do
any of them have a style that motivates you to try something
different?
As usual…..when it comes to “best” or “most talented”, I prefer
to use the word “favorite”.
And, as usual, because this blog is (more or less) about one
Tony Fouhse, I’m gonna copy here a few of the comments
that pertain……

Tony Fouhse I would say is the best of the bunch. Because I like
the style of his photography and the affects that he uses. The
ones of the people that are homeless and have no job or money
speak put to me the most. Because the inspire me to try harder
in school so that I can live a good life and have a job.

umm i think that they are weird pictures and i don’t really get them.

i do not think that this is a good idea but, this photos are kind of
suckish.

Tony Fouhse. Something about his pictures speaks to me. I love the
expressions on the people’s faces who are in the photos and the all
around feel you get when you look at his photographs. I would love
to capture the expressions that are usually hidden from everyone else.
patricia_couture
none of them really interest me there a little blah to me.

KINKED KENNY AT LPM
SOME OF THE FOLLOWING IMAGES ARE NOT SAFE FOR WORK
Kenny Lee (aka kinked kenny) opened his show at La Petite Mort
Gallery last nite. A view into a culture I’ve never seen, even though
this culture exists, even thrives, in every big city in the (first) world.

kinked kenny
Mister Kenny told me that he’s been shooting fotos for just over a
year. Before that he worked in the fashion industry, back stage at
fashion shows…..doing hair and so on. He felt compelled to leave
that fantasy world behind and explore another fantasy world.
In that time he has amassed huge amounts of shots that tell stories,
show a culture and move you to react and think. I like this approach
a lot. Work hard and print the fotos. Show them to people and let the
chips fall. Even though the fotos are beautiful, there’s nothing about
them, or Mister Kenny’s approach, that seems too precious.

Fight Club, by kinked kenny at la petite mort gallery
His fotos (not unlike the night shots I did of crack addicts) are tableaux.
He has penetrated a culture, met it’s participants and worked with them
to create fictions that approach a truth. This work is not for the weak
of heart. See more here.

And, this being an opening of fetish fotos at La Petite Mort Gallery,
there was, of course, more to see than just the fotos. There was also
a floor show/demonstration of Shibari going on.
Shibari is an artistic form of Japanese-style bondage that builds elegant
and beautiful rope work from a small set of simple ties.
The demo was conducted by Douglas Kent, author of award-winning “The
Better Built Bondage Book” and the forthcoming “Complete SHIBARI”.

The music was throbbing, the crowd into it, nobody got hurt. All in all,
a swell evening in the Nation’s Capital.

RSS?
Since I switched hosts/servers for my new web site I’ve been
getting bits of feedback about a possibly faulty RSS reader
thingy.
Anyone out there having problems with the RSS feed? Please
let me know if you are (or, maybe, if you aren’t).
Thanks.
