NOTHING
“I’ve got nothing”, I thought to myself as I sat down to write this.
In the past 2 1/2 weeks I shot 12 full days and now I’m swamped
with post production and scheduling yet more shoots. Plus a million
other niggley things that take my time and energy. It feels like life
has climbed on top of me this week, like bad drugs.
This life just gets to us sometimes. The economy is fucked, it’s
depressing February for God’s sake, everyone is on some kind of
treadmill, chasing fame or money or pussy; whatever. And it’s
always showtime, it would seem.
And then, Wilkie (my dog) came over and insisted on going for
a walk. “As if I don’t have enough to do without you making
demands”, I thought. But, as ever, I pulled on my coat and got
outside.
It was, of course, just what the doctor ordered.
(For a more lucid description of the whole blogging-all-the-time
thing read Mark Tucker’s recent post here, titled “Shortening
the attention span? Is it good?”)
Anyway…….
The walk did me a world of good and I decided that, since I’ve
got nothing to say this week, I might as well just throw up some
pix, rant a tiny bit and mention a swell foto show I saw.
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid, and contagious
K. Cobain
That’s the kind of mood I’m in as I sit here, writing this.
APRIL AND ERIC

April and Eric, stain, Ottawa, 2009 (click on image to enlarge)
This is one of the shots from an on-again/off-again project I’m
doing with April and Eric. Look for a whole series of these later
this year.
EDITS?
Am I old, or what? What’s with all the kids these days calling post
production (Photoshopping, if you will), “editing”? I hear that all
over the place, over and over again. What they’re talking about
is NOT editing.
Editing is going through what you’ve shot and making selections
and then putting those selections in order.
Fixing files up in Photoshop is called “post production” or “post”
or “Photoshopping”. Not “editing”.
But, I suppose, the English language keeps morphing, evolving.
Maybe I should just take a breath and get over it. But, man, that
really bugs me…..
HYPE
Three of the six shots I did for Ottawa magazine’s big, annual
Interiors edition. Dining rooms.
If you click on these images they’ll get bigger.
MORE HYPE
A couple pages from this month’s crop on national magazines.
SARAH FISHER (not nothing)
Sarah Fisher had an opening at The Red Wall Gallery last week.
A series of photos titled “The Collections”. Link.

Installation view of The Collections
One of the interesting things about this body of work is
that it’s, sort of, a typology of typologies.
(Here’s a link I put up on drool a week or so ago. About
typologies. I’ll repeat it here in case you missed it the first
time, or something. Link.)
The images in The Collections are all pushed together on the gallery
wall, making the disparate bits and pieces in each individual photo-
graph a part of a whole. The effect is both amusing and interesting
at the same time.
I’d suggest you drop by the gallery and see for yourself. The show
closes March 2nd.
OKAY
Okay, there you go. A disjointed, slightly grumpy drool this week.
Let’s see what next week brings.
I’ll leave you, this day after Valentine’s Day, with two pictures I shot
a while ago. Both these things were in the same room:
I’m going to go, now, and breathe in and breathe out.
