MUFFLER CRUNCH
I’ve shot Angie Neatby a few times. Once for a magazine and again for the personal
series I was shooting of people in their bedrooms. I really liked her plain speaking and
craaaaaaazy energy. Seem that she likes me too.
Her duo - Muffler Crunch - is releasing a CD and they asked me if I’d shoot some pix
for it and for a poster. No problemo.

I started testing my Linhof 4×5 camera. I think I’m in love.
The very first shot I took with it was of Jean Holmes. She’s 103 and still bakes pies.
I shot one 4×5 frame of her a couple of weeks ago while we were at her house shooting
portraits of her for a commercial client
The beauty of the Linhof is that it has a range finder and optical viewfinder so it can be
used handheld. Which is how I took this shot.
The negative is huge so the scan can be huge too. In this case, because I was testing,
I thought ‘d scan it at 3200 ppi. That yeilds a 455 meg scan that’s about 4 1/2 feet
tall at 300 ppi. The detail below the full frame would be 9 x13 inches if I printed the
whole scan size as. It kinda blows my mind.
Buttery is what ‘d call it. Try doing that with yer digi.
Of course, the full effect can’t really be seen on a computer screen with 72 ppi
samples. I can hardly wait to start shooting and printing these babies.


ME AND THE MISSUS
Cindy and I went to the big Ottawa Magazine 10th Anniversary Party a little
while ago. A swank affair, it was, held at Signatures (the Cordon Bleu restaurant
in Ottawa). They had a camera set up there and, if you posed they sent you a
faux cover featuring yer shot. Here we are:

Required reading if you’re in the industry, if you ask me. (And I’m not just saying
that because she solicited my opinion.)
