PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION + EMPTY ROOM
MEN ON WOMEN
Huge turnout for the opening of Men On Women. A group show
at Gallery La Petite Mort.
I had had one too many lattes before I went so count yourself lucky
if you didn’t bump in to me, I couldn’t shut up.
I also couldn’t stop taking really tight head snaps with my point
and shoot:

These, by the way, were edited and arranged in Aperture,
a photo editing and management program made by Apple.
As I’ve mentioned in drool before, Aperture is a fantastic tool
for doing this kind of stuff. Check it out (unless you’re a PC
chump, it doesn’t run on those.)
The actual show, being pretty much open to any gallery artist,
covered a wide range of pieces about how men see women.
This is my take on that:

This was shot a few years ago in my motel room, Mount Sterling, Ohio.
EMPTY ROOM
Just after Xmas I spent some time taking photos of 5 empty hospital rooms for
a Canadian Medical Association ad campaign.
You’d think that shooting empty rooms was easy. No way. Especially when the
shots must conform to a layout.
First we had to scout locations, then work around the busyness of an actual hospital
when it came time for the shoot. HELP WANTED signs of many sizes were created
and brought to the shoots. The rooms had to be arranged and tidied up a bit. In the
case of the room shown here, we couldn’t actually go into it….we had to send in a
properly attired intern to do the job. Sterile, you know.
Then, because these are essentially still-lifes, we could wiggle and finess the framing
as much as we wanted (except we got the bum’s rush from this room after a while,
seems it was scheduled to be used). That’s one of the reasons I prefer shooting people.
When flesh and blood is involved the dynamic must become more fluid. And, even though
I hate getting wet, I really like fluidity.

Have you read this far? Too much writing? Bored? I don’t know.
You tell me…..leave a comment.
