COVER, SPREAD and TURN

Had a shot on the cover of this month’s Report on Business mag.

Not to mention a swell double page spread opener and a full page on the turn.

The subject was Regina lawyer Tony Merchant, who just won a 25 billion dollar
class action suit for aboriginal people who had been abused in the residential
school system. He’s one of the koolest dudes I’ve ever shot, and a kool subject
certainly makes the whole process easier.

By “kool” I don’t mean rockstar, I don’t mean sexy, young, media-savvy or anything
like that. No, I mean that this dude was calm and collected, interested and committed
to the shoot. Was there. He took the time, cooperated and pushed back a bit when he
needed to. All this despite the fact that this guy is so busy that he’s got 5 secretaries,
who he manages by having 5 color-coded hand-held tape recorders, one for each secretary.
Asked why 5 different recorders he says that each secretary has a specific thing they are
best at so, depending upon what crosses his mind, he’ll dictate that thought or task into
a specific recorder.

Anyway…..we shot for about 3 hours, did a bunch of set-ups and supplied the magazine
with about 70 selects from the shoot. The only time I supply that many choices is if the
shoot has gone exceedingly well or exceedingly sucks.
